Dental Bonding Can Create A Beautiful Smile!

Jul 23, 2018

Dental bonding is a common dental procedure that we perform at West Humber Dentistry in Rexdale, ON. It is a procedure that can make extreme changes to your smile, and can be completed in a single appointment to our office. Because of how simple the procedure itself is, dental anesthesia may not even be needed, and is a less expensive alternative to porcelain restorations. Dental bonding involves reshaping and blending the teeth to be more uniform. Tooth colored materials are used to change the shape color and length of any tooth you maybe less than satisfied with.

Dental Bonding Procedure

Dental bonding is a great way to restore the function to a tooth that has dental decay or if you just need a cosmetic change. A small amount of preparation is needed for dental bonding, especially in the case of a chipped tooth. A light buffing of the surface of the tooth, and a cleaning of the edges, is needed to prepare the area to be ready to accept the dental bond. Phosphoric acid is then applied to the tooth being treated to prepare the surface for the dental composite. Then, a liquid conditioning agent is applied to the tooth’s surface and facilitates bonding. After this your dentist will choose the proper shade of dental composite to match the toth and apply said composite. Finally a UV light is held over the dental composite and the material is adjusted to remove any excess and bring it to a high polished finish. This procedure is generally done between 30 minutes to an hour for each tooth, and should not be noticeable to the naked eye. It is important that you remain diligent in your dental routine to ensure that the dental bond will be useful and beautiful for a long time to come.
